ASSISTANTS,
APPROVED PROVIDER AND CASE CONSULTATION GUIDELINES

GENERAL
GUIDELINES - ASSISTANTS
Applicants need to be pre-approved as
assistants prior to their initial assisting assignment.
It is up to individual faculty members to make the final decision about
which assistants will actually assist at a given training, but faculty must draw
from the pool of pre-approved assistants. Faculty
have the final say in who assists, not local organizers.
Assistants are encouraged to make a
commitment to assist at all modules of the training year for which they will
assist.
The FHE faculty is looking for these
skills in its assisting teams:
Capacity
for containment
Capacity
to self-regulate/hold ground
Cooperative
team member
Ability
to take constructive feedback and direction
Ability
to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
Ability
to appropriately support the faculty's teaching function
Ability
to support a positive learning environment
Take
responsibility for knowing the curriculum
Assist
in providing overall class containment, by helping faculty, fellow assistants,
students and coordinator.
The letters of reference currently
required will be changed to a simple evaluation-type form that faculty will fill
out as a substitute for writing a reference letter.
Until this evaluation based
reference letter is available, please obtain a written statement of reference
from a FHE faculty member. One
reference will be required to accompany the application.
Applicants must submit all required
documentation at least 2 months prior to the start of the training year for
which they are seeking approval. A
committee reviews assistant applications once a month to ensure all
documentation is submitted correctly. Complete
applications must be received by the 20th of the month to be reviewed
when the committee meets early each month.
Applicants will then receive a letter
which authorizes them to assist. This
letter may be presented to local organizers or faculty as proof of students’
authorization to assist.
All assistants will receive an
evaluation of their assisting skills from the faculty member teaching the
training, at the end of each training year.
This evaluation form is currently being developed and will be distributed
to faculty as soon as it is completed.
The Foundation for Human Enrichment will
immediately begin using the following standard terminology, as defined below:
General Assistant, Primary Assistant, Senior Assistant.
All candidates must fulfill the following criteria, in addition to the
specific criteria for each level of approval:
Criteria
for General Assistant
Criteria

Assistant at each training; in some areas there will be no Senior Assistants
available. Senior Assistants will
